La Châtaigneraie, Pyrenees Orientales:
About us

Welcome

Bonjour!

Proof we made it to the summit of Mount Canigou!

Welcome to our beautiful new home in the South of France.

This is our first season at La Châtaigneraie and as you are reading this website, we are busy making sure everything is ready to offer you a fabulous holiday in the Languedoc.

La Châtaigneraie means sweet chesnut grove and tends to get shortened to “La Chat”.  The Rotja Valley is a wonderful mixture of Spain and France with all signposts written in both French and Catalan.  You may well hear Sahorre being called by its Catalan name of Saorra.

As you drive up from Perpignan, the famous Mount Canigou rises majestically in the backgorund – one of the highest peaks in the Pyrénées.  You will pass through miles of picturesque vineyards along with orchards of peaches, apricots and cherries, to name but a few.  The Rotja Valley is most famous for its apples and in our garden we have figs, grapes, olives, cherries and probably all sorts of other things we haven’t even discovered yet!

The area feels peaceful and tranquil with fantastic mountain views, but you will never feel remote or cut off.  The town of Vernet les Bains is only 1.6 miles, or a half-hour walk by road.  You can also get there by walking up and over the ridge which may take you a little longer, but is worth the effort for the stunning views you will enjoy at each bend in the track.

We hope you will find all the information you need on our website, but this is still a work in progress, so please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any queries.

As owners, we will always be on hand to welcome you and ensure everything goes smoothly for your holiday.

We hope to see you soon!

Caroline & Bob Mann
