We have had an amazing and special 2 week stay in this beautiful location, surrounded by natural beauty and a lovely house and swimming pool.  We will treasure the memories built over the course of our stay – lots of fun in the pool, some great hikes, long chats and family games in the evenings.

Thank you for all your help, advice and care to make our stay so enjoyable, we felt very well looked after.

Bob & Caroline, Thank you for a splendid stay, we have all had the best time ever here. This place is absolutely beautiful and is perfect for ages 0 – 100.  The swimming pool was the highlight of the week as it is very refreshing for the high temperature here. I love the pool table as well, we have all had some great games against each other. Thank you for everything.

We arrived July 14th – Bastille Day – to celebrate a 30th & 80th birthday.  A holiday, rest and relaxation.  19 family members, 3 generations – 80 – 19 years worth of people. Absolutely wonderful week enjoying local area and the amazing accommodation. Swimming in the lovely pool, games every evening and emotional conversation with out wonderful family.

Thank you Bob and Caroline for a wonderful stay for the Cullen family – just the 29 of us! Your hospitality was evident from the minute we arrived to carrot cake, wine, apple juice and brownies.  Everyone made the most of the pool (epic volleyball!) and the lovely variety of seating areas with the covered patio perfect for lunch and dinner.  From the youngest (10) to the oldest (87) we’ve voted this our favourite villa ever – we will be back!

A wonderful week (again!) for the Naylors/Wardells – 25 of us!  Plenty to see and do and lots of opportunities to be lazy too. It was great to have Le Citronnier for our first evening and to celebrate two birthdays at the Café-Resto de la Mine.  Bonus points for the boulanger keeping up with our breakfast requirements and thank you to Suzie at Mas Salies for lots of Sahorre stories.

Caroline & Bob came to our rescue during our move from Eus to Fuilla. You treated us to a week of luxury in your former “winter quarters”. It was a heavenly retreat allowing us to draw breath every night.  Three evenings of the four were spent sipping read wine and quaffing the odd Leffe Brune on the terrace by Petit Gite; the sun was so hot Mike stripped to the waist on one occasion.  The nights were still cold but we were beautifully warm inside, sharing the elegant dining area with a batch of multi-coloured ladybirds who’d hatched/woken from hibernation with the central heating. A cuckoo serenaded us over drinks. We padded up the local paths to the Vernet Col, the “bobbin” at the head of the inclined railway which once had ferried wagons loaded with iron-ore down to the valley floor. The tranquility of this woodland would have been rent by the grinding and groaning of that machinery and the hillside stripped bare of trees in the 19th century.  But to highlight other delightful features of our stay – the great slab of homemade cake baked by Caroline and bottle of red wine greeted us our first night and were much appreciated.  Your kitchen was full of useful gadgets and tools, every sort of cooking device (I was longing to try out the bread-maker!) so that I felt entirely at home, cooking each night. Often in a rented house you are thwarted mid-stream by a perfectly simple tool not being available – this kitchen has been equipped with great care and attention.  Our bed/duvet was exceptionally comfortable.  Little wonder your guests return year after year! We were very sad to leave and eternally grateful for the pampering during a hectic and exhausting period.

Peaceful, relaxing stay during the traumas of a house move from Eus to Fuilla. Most warm welcome to set the tone of our week’s stay. Comprehensive and detailed guides and instructions to keep visitors engaged.  Great little west-facing terrace for an evening drink or two. Comfortable and well furnished – sunshine always – living room, plus plenty of space. And the hirondelles arrived the week we were there. Many thanks to you both for a stay in a beautifully designed complex.

We arrived in the clothes we stood up in – with no luggage, money or passports having had our hire car broken into and everything stolen.  Caroline not only made us welcome with an improvised meal, but lent me her laptop so that I could begin the process of obtaining emergency travel documents. What little time we had to enjoy the view and surroundings gave us more than enough reasons to return. I cannot repeat enough how wonderful Caroline was in an emergency – she turned a crisis into a bit of a nuisance!

We’ve had a lovely week in the Marron Gite. Enjoyed the superb views of the mountains from the patio, kids loved the pool and the grounds. Beautiful part of the world! Loved the morning boulangerie order brilliantly arranged by Caroline and the games room and “herb kitchen” helped make our cooking bearable. Locally, kids loved lake Vinca (great for swimming, kayaking and inflatables) and the high ropes at the Tet Adventure. A wonderful holiday experience and the weather has been superb!

This was our 2nd week of our French holiday. The journey from St Antonin was long and as we got more into the mountains we were getting a little worried.  However on being greeted by Caroline and seeing the “Petit Gite” we felt at home. The views are amazing, the people in the village very friendly. Met with Suzie who has the wine cave and bought wine to take home.  The butcher and his wife made jokes about us taking food to England and the restaurant people were very friendly.  The little yellow train is a must. Marron Gite had everything we needed for a perfect family break, especially the view. The weather was a little mixed but there is so much to do in the area we had plenty to occupy ourselves.

We enjoyed the yellow train – stand outside and hold onto the bars as you descend, just like a roller coaster. The creperie at Mont Louis was very good. The ramparts at Villefranche were very interesting, our son turned out to be a Vauban expert so the tour was even more enjoyable. We also went to the Orgues, spent about an hour there, had lunch in Ille sur Tet, then “enjoyed” the Go-Ape style experience at Marquixanes – a little too windy – the trees moved!! The walk from Casteil to Abbaye d’est Martin is quite hard work if you are unfit but the view is worthwhile. We didn’t do the tour as we heard it was entirely in French.
We loved being able to walk to Sahorre each day for croissants and bread, the butcher was good too. Otherwise Intermarche at Vernet met all our needs.
All in all there was lots to do, most with spectacular views and all very enjoyable. The hosts were generous and hospitable, letting us watch Doctor Who on the big screen and inviting us to watch a late night movie as well. We have really enjoyed our stay at La Chataigneraie and would love to come back one day – thank you.

Had a very enjoyable few days here. Caroline, Bob and Ross have been the perfect hosts, very attentive and friendly. Breakfasts outside have been a great start to each day. Accommodation has been very nice, rooms great and the pool very welcoming after a hot day out.
Tried the bistro in Sahorre one evening – great pizzas and overall quite reasonably priced. Can walk there down the lane in about 15 minutes – just remember to take a torch!
Went to the rock-pools about 5 minutes drive (35 minutes walk). Great way to pass a couple of hours. A ropeswing there for the brave.
Les angles (c. 1 1/2 hours drive) – nice wildlife park. 50 euros for a family of four. Got some great photos of animals indigenous (historically) to the local area. Wolves and marmots were family favourites. Quite a windy road up there – mainly uphill going, but mainly downhill coming down!
Weather has been great this past week – late 80-s – mid 90s.
Overall a great holiday.

An amazing 8 days at La Chataigneraie. Beautiful surroundings meant I was able to indulge both my lazy and active sides during my stay and it was fun to be able to get back on a bike after 10 years! Lovely (but very brief) stay in Marron Gite. Could only stay for 2 nights but would very much like to return! Just got back from the most wonderful week – La Chataigneraie was a fantastic find – beautiful scenery all around and extremely comfortable accommodation with loads to do on site.
We’d planned to do lots of walking, mountain biking and watersports, as well as general exploring of the local area, but our “base” was so relaxing (and the weather so beautiful!) that we hardly ventured out.  The pool is perfect – big enough for a decent swim and the most beautiful and calming views from all around it.  Difficult to tear ourselves away!
To let off any energy we had left we used the gym – cross trainer, weights machine and treadmill, and any competitive urges were met by the table football and games of petanque (on the dedicated petanque pitch).  We did stir ourselves enough to venture out on the bikes into the nearest village – Sahorre – to buy bread from the boulangerie in the morning and just for a potter another time.
We visited Villefranche which is a lovely ancient fortified town, full of character, and Perpignan for one of their summer entertainment nights – lots of music, dancing, and acrobatics to enjoy for free!  But I’m almost ashamed to say – in a week’s stay, that was it!
Caroline and Bob have thought of everything.  The gite was well equipped with all the crockery and utensils we needed – in fact much better equipped (and definitely the most scenic) than any other gite we’ve stayed in (all 12 of them).  There’s a herb and spices kitchen from which you can borrow anything you need, to save having to buy whole packs for the tiny bit you need, as well as plenty of books to read.
Which leads me on to my final point.  If you’re travelling by budget airline (we flew ryanair), and the weather promises to be half decent – think hard about whether you need to put luggage in the hold.  We put one suitcase in the hold but discovered we really didn’t need to (and could have saved ourselves £98!).  You can borrow a hairdrier and hire beach towels when you get there, and buy any toiletries that aren’t allowed in hand luggage. We lived in swimming costumes, shorts and a T shirt, and only needed one jumper for the occasional chilly morning or evening.  We wore our heaviest pair of shoes (trainers for all that walking and cycling we were going to do!) on the plane then lived in flip flops. All in all I can’t recommend this place enough.  Many thanks to Caroline and Bob for creating such a lovely holiday for us!

We have had the most wonderful time at La Chataigneraie. Bob and Caroline have made us most welcome and even cut down a tree so the view from the patio was more spectacular!! There is lots to do in the surrounding area – we have enjoyed some lovely walks as well as visiting castles; les grottes; museums…. We would not hesitate to make a return visit.
